Wood Engraving with Jessica White June 27 12-4pm

$160.00

Learn how to make small marks in wood blocks that make a mighty big impression! In this workshop, we’ll be inspired by nature to explore wood engraving, a printmaking technique that creates delicate lines and fine detail on the end grain of a block of wood. This historic method was first used to illustrate books, and have been elevated to an art form by remarkable artists like Thomas Bewick (UK, 1753-1828) and Clare Leighton (US, 1898-1989).

Learning Outcomes:

- Students will learn to see colors, textures, and patterns found in nature and develop artistic and creative expression by recreating what they see.

- Students will learn how to use tools and materials in wood engraving printing techniques, and be able to continue their printing practice after the workshop.

- Some students will find meditative reflection in printmaking practice.
